Hello friends~~
It’s Friday, and TBTG! Even when I work all weekend, I still love that “Friday feeling”, you know? PLUS~~it’s summer! So, for a summer Friday Five, here are a few thoughts to ponder upon:

1. What makes you happy in your happy hour? (kicking off shoes, reading a book, a cocktail, lemonade~~essentially, what do you do to relax at the end of your week…)

2. I have a pair of shorts that I jump into the minute I get home for the evening–every day in the summer. What’s your favorite summer “garment”?

3. I have discovered, after living here in New England for 7 years, Ipswich fried clams. Oh. my. OH MY! Do you have a summer food you might splurge on once or twice in the summer?

4. Do you have a specific fond memory of summers of your childhood?

5. Use these words in a sentence: snail, baby duck, camper, ice cream, surfboard, cherries.

Have fun, and let us know you played in the comments!

  1. Okay– I will play:

    1. TGIF. Sabbath for me. Drop off children to daycare. Listen to folk music or some of my husband’s old cds. (Yesterday, it was music from singing monks at Western Priory, but it could be Nanci Griffith or Catie Curtis or Bruce S.). Take a long shower. Try not to feel guilty about that indulgence. A good cup of fresh brewed coffee. Ironing. (I like to iron.) A good book– something that helps me grow. Mandelas and letter writing. (my father was a postmaster so I spent a lot of time at the postoffice and love getting mail and sending mail…it’s like a gift among the bills and trivial). Today I am going to try to go to a clergy picnic– hired a sitter to help me with children at the picnic– plan on total rush hour traffic chaos– if we actually arrive (and don’t get lost) and can actually meet one person and have one real conversation, then it will be a victory.

    2. I basically sleep in my clothes because of the children BUT I try to take extra care on Sabbath to dress nice but comfortable. It’s even more important now that my husband is gone to take good care of self. Not always successful b/c I think “why bother?” But that is just the devil talking.

    3. I’d love to have the chance to pick MD crabs this summer. We fished for crabs as a child in the Chesapeake Bay with chicken necks on string and then ate them at picnic table in Ocean City MD. You always had to throw back the pregnant females– they’d get caught in the net…and I think there might have been a law about that. But I loved picking crabs. I don’t know if I’ll have a chance this summer– the boys are too small. Picking crabs is a social thing– good with beer and lots of time to sit and talk.

    4. See above. Summers in Ocean City catching toads (they were everywhere, like the plague, but in positive way…kept as “pets.”. Twin boys (21 mo) are too small right now for me to manage on beach with ocean but maybe when they get bigger.

    5. At a snail’s pace, she built the makeshift surfboard table, propped by concrete blocks next to our trusty camper, and we tossed cherries to baby ducks while enjoying mint ice cream under an exploding sunset.

    1. Awesome play, DDL, and I love the idea of mandela creating. Good luck with the picnic…and Ocean City sounds lovely.

  2. 1. reading a book on my back deck with a large glass of iced tea to sip
2.a too large, loose and somewhat ugly dress that someone gave me, it’s cool, comfortable and makes me feel like I don’t have to give a darn for a few minutes. Combined with bare feet, it’s the real me LOL
    3. huge salads with fresh ingredients – as many different vegs, nuts and cheeses as possible.
    4. swimming at the cottage
    5. We drove our camper with the surf board on the roof,at a snail’s pace which was a good thing because a duck crossed the road and we didn’t want to hit it when we were pulling over to buy ice cream with cherries on top.

  3. 1. Sitting on the couch with my dog snuggled next to me.
    2. My hot pink dress.
    3. Salmon
    4.visiting my grandmother
5.The snail took so long to move across the pathway, that the baby duck had to rent a camper to wait for him, and while the baby duck was waiting, he ate ice cream and cherries while sitting on a surfboard.

  4. I usually read in my p.j.’s. or at least p.j. bottoms and tee shirt (with stretched out bra – tmi.) BUT when I really want to escape, I go to the sew-craft studio. Hubby doesn’t continually interrupt me in there. 😉 I do love him dearly. Root beer float! One childhood summer, our water fight migrated into the house, mom joined in. “Discovered stowaways (snail & baby duck) as I carried my surfboard back to the camper for some ice cream and cherries – dudette!”

  5. 1. a cocktail for sure and watching a bit of mindless TV (HGTV is a favorite, because chaos is brought to order within 60 minutes!)
    2. I also have a pair of favorite shorts – stretchy & comfy!
    3. I allow myself 2 brats per summer. I ate 2 on the 4th of July, but I’m only counting that as one. 🙂
    4. Favorite summer childhood memory is hanging with the Norsemen Quartet and Families. 19 of us lived in one house for 2 weeks. The ‘dads’ sang 90% of concerts in churches (we took turns hosting) and the women and children chimed in at the end. SO much fun!
    5. I am enjoying others’ creativity with this!!
