Shhhhh….
Advent is coming. I tell you this, not to panic you, but as a quiet invitation.
This time of year can be so busy with planning for Advent and Christmas, for those who work in churches and we who live close to them. Today, I invite you to sit quietly…as Mary sits in the photo above…and consider five things about Advent. They might be images, practices, hymns, anything you like. Just let the thoughts wash over you. Be peaceful with them. Be blessed with them.
If you share about them, please link to this post.
A little off topic here but I love that image of Mary praying! Is it a photo from someplace or is she yours? Do you have any additional information on her? She is delightfully different than any other Mary’s I have seen, so much so, that I can envision her pondering things in her heart.

Thanks, MaryBeth. You brought new life to my dormant blog here: https://bookgirl71.wordpress.com/2014/11/14/friday-five-the-advent-of-advent/ and got sidetracked going into iTunes to look for more Advent music. Anyone have Advent music-to-listen (Advent Albums?) to that they really like?

Taking a Sabbath moment in the middle of a busy day:
Advent practices/favorites:
1. The pink candle in the Advent wreath
2. Ordering (and picking out) an “old-world” Advent calendar that is beautiful and special
3. Receiving Christmas cards in the mail.
4. The first time we sing O, Come, O, Come Emmanuel…and any songs about Joseph (I love his role in the stories of Christmas, almost as much or more than Mary’s role)
5. Dreams during Advent. With all the sermons and conversations about “waiting,” it is wonderful to ponder what we might be waiting for (i.e. how Christ may show up in our lives unexpectedly…and dreaming about that)

I don’t know how to do a pingback but I did include a link to this blog in my blog here: http://makrabbe.blogspot.com/2014/11/be-encouraged-and-be-encouraging.html. It didn’t start out being a response to the Friday Five but it ended up there!
