“What if people were invited to come tell what they already know of God instead of to learn what they are supposed to believe? What if they were blessed for what they are doing in the world instead of chastened for not doing more at church?”

– Barbara Brown Taylor

God our friend,

Please help us to listen more than we talk,

To invite people to share their glory with us

rather than us impressing ourselves upon them

Help us to lay down our best selves before the world

So that they might care to enter into dialogue with us

rather than hearing us preach.

God, make us curious, quiet, and gracious.

  1. Awesome true. Indeed is time for preacher to be quite, calm and listen to what the members are saying. To me it seems as if the more the message the more the sins.
