I do not believe in opening the Bible, pointing your finger, and taking advice from what your eye hits.
I do believe that God works mysteriously.
Recently, I spoke with two women who are preparing to get married after more than forty years together. We sought appropriate scripture passages for their small ceremony.
As I turned from Ruth toward Ecclesiastes, the Bible fell open at random as we talked.
Then I looked down and saw this:
Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light. (Psalm 36:5-9)
It hit my eye and my soul. And we cried holy tears together.
Amen.
oh! oh! Thank you. Amen.
