There were surely people who believed the water in which John stood was somehow magic.
Likely, they sought to carry it away in small bottles or wineskins, especially those who perceived something about Jesus as well.
The muddy Jordan- barrier and invitation- was hardly the holy water of imagination.
Yet the water cycle is one of resurrection in a million parts and in parts per million.
The water of the Jordan of 30 C.E. is splayed out and sprayed out in oceans, wadis, cricks, cisterns, and tea cups.
Remind us of how you quench our thirsts,
How your love floods,
How nothing can contain the water of life.
Wash us anew in the tide of blessing that continues, unabated, from grace.
