I was once asked why God made dust. I explained that it was not God, but us.

We cut the trees, we housed ourself with creation and insisted on floors made out of unnatural fibers.

We made grass grow where trees were supposed to and contaminated our water with fertilizers.

This Saturday I shall get my house in order. I will dust the drywall residue of my 60 year old house that has fallen on my bookshelves.

I will use clean water to wash pots and pans. I will launder my barely worn clothes and throw away the wrappers my children lazily threw on the floor.

But above all, I will have cake for breakfast. Because God created the world and declared it good, we try our best to destory and wipe clean the chaos of creation.

To think of it is overwhelming sometimes, heck, changing my son’s pee pee sheets ain’t no walk in the park either. But instead of wallowing in the sorrow, I simply praise the maker for all I have and try not to think about the undoing of tomorrow.

Amen.

  1. wondering why the wine glass is upside down … seems to me that a delicious piece of cake at breakfast necessitates a few ounces of crisp, sweet white wine, after all it too is one of God’s gift of creation 😉
