Friday Prayer

Holy one,
We enter this long weekend
Delighting in an extra sabbath day
But aware, as well
Of the reason.

This weekend bears the scars
Mostly invisible
Upon the hearts of grieving families
Upon the soul of this nation,
Upon the Body of the one
Who died for the sake of life.

Help us, in these days,
To remember those who died
In the hope that war might end war,
That their loved ones might be safe.
Help us to follow the one
Who showed us the way of love,
Even when it isn’t safe.

Holy one, Prince of Peace,
Grant us reflection, this sabbath time;
That we might truly remember:
Only peace ends war.
