yeah, umm, God.
Fierce, patient, mama bear God?
I am just going to ask you to rein me in today,
because I am feeling particularly un-Christian and non-gracious today.
If trivialities come up, help me to breathe.  Or walk away.
In traffic, may the happy music on the radio keep me singing and make some extra endorphins. (If that is how they are made.  Hell, I don’t care, God, just get me through the commute without offering that special finger to someone who cuts me off, because you know they will.  It’s Boston, after all.)
If someone complains, grouses, whines, mutters in any kind of passive aggression, I beg you to remind me that I am a leader and know how to not to get sucked in.
When I read about the stupidity of people and lawmakers and fear mongers and politicians and anything else in the news, let me rage righteously in the best channels, and not take my irritation out on the dog or my best friend.

And when someone offers me a kindness, in spite of all my un-christian like state of being, give me the heart to melt in that love.

Rev. Karla Miller is a UCC pastor serving as Minister of Community Life at Old North Church in Marblehead, MA, one of the most quaint and lovely places on the North Shore of Boston.  She really loves all kinds of dogs, and longs for a goat and a flock of chickens.  Once in a while she blogs at
do. love. walk. what more can I say?
