Invite me to the river, Sweet Spirit,
where I can cast my cares like stones and watch
as they become dance and art skipping across the water.

Slow my anxious breath at the river, O Eternal Sigh,
and ground my feet on the Rock that remains
when all else tumbles and trembles.

Tune my ear to the river’s song, Beautiful Siren,
and tease courage from within me until at last I dare
to dip my weary toes into your unpredictable stream of life.

Restore hope within me, Merciful Jesus,
somewhere between these rocks and this river
and I will keep your good name forever within my heart.

  1. thank you, Rachel. I really needed this today as I head into a very difficult and emotional day. I will keep trying to return to that image and expression of hope you evoke so well. thank you
