praise-1474686-1280x1920I find myself still reeling from the election results. Still processing with God. Still looking for words. So, since I do not have all of the words I need right now, I decided you all could help supply them.

First, make a list of words that fit the categories listed here:

positive adjective; Divine name/title; adjective; adjective; type of person-plural (x3); negative adjective; verb; verb; negative adjective; body part; small group you are part of-plural; larger group you are part of-plural; large noun; term for excrement; cooling device; adjective; negative adjective; Divine name/title; verb; positive adjective (x3); direction; direction; Divine name/title; adjective; noun; famous duck; card suit; verb; verb; positive adverb; body part-plural (x2)

Second, fill these words into the prayer below as indicated.

Third, share your best line(s) in the comment section.

Finally, take a deep breath and know that you are not alone. We are not alone.

Post-Election Prayer

In the wake of the [adjective] election, have mercy on us, your [adjective] people.

When the [term for excrement] hits the [cooling device], let us not be afraid to get [adjective] in our efforts to clean it up.

As we encounter [negative adjective] conversations, O [Divine name/title], give us the words to [verb]—words that are [positive adjective] and [positive adjective] and [positive adjective]. And if you do not give us the words, then give us the grace to shut [direction] and walk [direction].

O [Divine name/title], as we face a(n) [adjective] future with our [noun]-elect, [famous duck] [card suit], give us the wisdom and courage we will need to [verb] against all injustice. Let us continue to [verb] [positive adverb] in the way of Jesus. Grant us peace in our [body part-plural] and strengthen our [body part-plural] for the work ahead.

  1. Knowing that our sisters in this clergy group have voted, and have congregants who have voted, along both party lines, my prayer is that all future prayers would take that into consideration.

  2. Hurrah! Finally a useful template for prayer – I can, even as a non-USA’n fill in blanks cheerfully [or despondently] as needed, for many situations.
Thanks for the giggle in ‘interesting’ times, Joanna
