To all those that have served or are currently serving in the United States of American (U.S.A.) armed forces, thank you.
Today in the U.S.A. we remember. We remember, honor, and celebrate great men and women that have sacrificed their lives while serving in our in the country’s armed forces. As a granddaughter of a World War II veteran, the daughter of a Vietnam War veteran, and the mother of an active duty Navy Corpsman, I whisper a prayer for the loved ones left behind because they’ve made a tremendous sacrifice as well.
Much like a marriage commitment, these men and women volunteer to protect and serve the flawed but still great U.S.A. They endure rigors testing even to be in our military system. They are trained to look out for their fellow soldiers and U.S. citizens. One for all in all for one is the daily practice.
They take a vow via the following Oath of Enlistment:
“I, (state name of enlistee), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
They are ‘all in”. With such a level of non-partisan commitment, it saddens me that the holiday has lost its meaning and morphed into the ‘official start to summer’ or worse yet, a free day off to a barbecue.
With the surge in global terror attacks, let’s remember these men and woman’s love for God and country keep us safe. Their sacrifice makes it possible for us to have a level of comfort not experienced globally.
Today, if we chose to barbecue, let’s set a place at the table in memoriam to the thousands that have given their life in service to support and defend the U.S. against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Today, join me in whispering a prayer for those the military families that are left behind after losing a loved one.
Today, let’s make a commitment to truly remember the ultimate gift of love; sacrificing one’s life on behalf of another.
What’s love got to do with it…EVERYTHING!
