God Weeps
God weeps at lives discarded
lives disregarded
lives ignored
God weeps
God weeps as the world watches, incredulous
but stays silent
God weeps
God weeps as white men shout and claim God’s authority
where no authority is
God weeps
and I weep and I reel, at my helplessness
I live across a distant sea
and yet, I know, the distance is as nothing
my small voice cries out
NO!!
Holy God, hear the cries of those who weep and mourn
touch the hearts of those who are terrified
strengthen the will of those who feel ill-equipped
and, in all things,
may those who claim Christ, live up to his example
by walking the path of peace
but also, expressing righteous anger where it is called for.
Amen
