If they had known it would be forty years,
would they have packed differently?
would they have planned differently?
would they have prepared differently?
We do not know the dimensions
of the journey to which you call us.
We only hear you say…
Preach, teach, heal.
Love others as yourself.
Confront abusers of power.
Seek out those whom the world shuns.
Care for the Samaritan; let the Samaritan care for you.
We cannot fathom forty years,
even though some of us have lived it
for forty years and more.
Give us the strength, the peace,
the courage, the faith, the humility
to follow you for this one day,
and then the next day,
and the one after that.
