Tender God, we lift toward you the makeshift family

of all those joined together by shared suffering.

Look with mercy, we beg you,

on your people displaced by ethnic cleansing, carrying their belongings on weary backs,

on those cleaning up after earthquakes and storms,

looking at the wreck of their homes,

searching through rubble for anything they can save,

longing to hear if lost loved ones are alive.

Give hope to the disparate and desperate community

of people who are wading in mud and water,

casting out the ruined leftovers of their lives,

searching for hope.

Come with waves of courage and winds of strength, we pray,

bring earthquakes of life-renewing compassion,

to the weary, the wet, the displaced and the despairing.

In the name of the One who stills the storm, Amen.

We hope you'll join the conversation!
