O God, our God,
Again the storms have come.
The great and devastating winds.
The rock-splitting earthquake.
The threats of fire and destruction.
The storms rage
as we cower on Mount Horeb
listening for your voice.
We cannot hear you in the winds,
or earthquake,
or fire.
But perhaps,
if we prepare ourselves
and peek out of our cave,
if we can live within
the sound of sheer silence,
if we can tune our ears
to the still small voice,
perhaps we will hear you again.
Perhaps your voice will guide us out
into your dangerous and glorious world.
Amen.

Thank you for this. Two weeks ago I used the ancient words of Psalm 46 as the prayers of the people. Perhaps tomorrow, Elijah will speak for us all and we will listen in silence.
