Holy God,

We’ve had
one extraordinary day
after another, composed
of violence and disaster
and death;
we’ve reacted with
fear, grief,
exhaustion, anger,
and despair.

We ask you, how long?

You ask us the same.

How much longer until
people say no to leaders
who stir up hate?

How much longer until
people put down their weapons,
turn swords into plowshares?

How much longer until
people see every person
as God’s beloved?

We pray for you
to turn things,
but in the end,
it’s up to us.

Knowing your will,
thankful for your grace,
may we respond with
acts of kindness,
deeds of justice,
works of peace.

Amen.
