I want to run full speed at the cruelties and injustices of the world, kicking and screaming and fighting with all my might.
I want to curl up on my couch with a snugly blanket, a bowl of popcorn, and a good, happy movie.
I feel lost.
I feel overwhelmed.
I feel the fear nipping at the edges, threatening to consume.
I don’t even know what to pray for today.
Inspiration. Or energy. Wisdom. Fire. A holy push. A safe embrace.
Whatever I need, that’s my prayer.
I thank you that even though I feel lost, this is not uncharted territory.
I thank you for your rage in the temple courts.
For your desperate retreats into the wilderness.
For your harsh rebukes of hypocritical leaders.
I thank you for your annoyance when your mom wanted you to work and you were just trying to enjoy the party.
I thank you for your love of children and your funny stories.
I thank you for your fear in the garden.
For facing death.
For all of your own holy kicking and screaming and snuggling under blankets,
I thank you,
Great Immanuel—God with us.
