O God, I’m becoming aware…
(I guess we all knew)
the time is near.
(Really, the time has already come)

So make a whip of these cords-
of my nonsense,
of my excuses,
of my ignorance,
of my silence.

Drive us out of our pews,
our committees,
our systems,
our privileged high places.

And rip open our pockets,
our wallets,
our endowments,
our reserves.

Take these things out of here-
take us,
take our “peace”,
take our “unity”,
take our complacency,
take our pride.

Destroy this temple of comfort,
(the one we created)
and in its place,
rise up a people,
who deeply believe,
who boldly share,
who willingly risk,
who radically love,
who faithfully hope,
who. don’t. give. up.

Whip. Drive. Rip. Toss. Destroy.
(You heard me)
And craft us anew. Shock us to change. Call us back to you.
(I swear, we may actually follow)
The time is near.
(It’s. Right. Now.)

I pray.

(This prayer is based on this Sunday’s lectionary Gospel text:  John 2:13-22)
