I am screaming in the temple,
flipping over tables,
making enemies of those who do not understand.
I am relaxing with my friends,
enjoying good food, a nice glass of wine,
giving thanks for the bread and the cup and the laughter.
I am weeping in the garden,
feeling terribly alone,
fearing what lies ahead.
I am, in short, a mess.
But I am a mess in good company,
living into the messy reality of faith,
holding onto the messy hope of the cross.
Let my anger be righteous,
my laughter be joyful,
my tears be a reminder of your holy presence with me:
with me in the temple,
with me at the table,
with me through the garden,
with me now,
with me always.
