In your mercy Lord, hear our prayer…

We pray for hearts that see the world only as “us” versus “them”.
We pray for minds that are closed to new ideas and ways of your grace.
We pray for hands that are clenched tight with the rallying cry of “mine”, forgetting that everything is yours.
We pray for eyes that are shut tight against your vision of the heavenly kingdom.
We pray for heads that turn away from your beloved children who need help.
We pray for feet that walk away, refusing to be changed by your love and your promise.

We pray for those called by you to nudge hearts, minds, hand, eyes, heads, and feet open and forward…

In your mercy Lord, hear our prayer…

Kathryn Z. Johnston is Senior Pastor at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in south central Pennsylvania. She joined RevGals shortly after its founding in 2005 and is among the contributors to There’s a Woman in the Pulpit. To get her mind off being head of staff, she plays softball, but not in church leagues.
