Lord, have mercy on

Those who feel unable to make it to a safe needle exchange today.

The ones who stare at the ceiling and wonder if they have the energy to roll over.

A sister who is fumbling for coffee to sober up and

A brother who is going to try again for a 24-hour abstinence.

Lord, be gracious to

The person whose mind cannot settle to peaceful thoughts.

The people who will lash out in word and deed today.

The friend who is a little too reckless because their heart is too broken to be careful.

Lord, show favor to

The ones with weathered skin and cracked feet, overheated or not quite warm enough.

The small one, hiding in plain sight, confused, tired, and lonely in the middle of a crowd.

The child of God counting change to see if there’s enough for something, anything, just one thing.

Kyrie eleison! Christe eleison!
