God of eternity,
We have gathered our saints around us.
We have gathered them for comfort
And for wisdom
And for strength.
We have gathered them as a reminder
Of your presence.
Because we can see how you were with them,
And so maybe those coming after
Will look back on our lives–
The lives we are living right now–
And be able to see clearly
What we see only dimly:
The perseverance of Spirit,
The miracles of faith,
The victory of righteousness,
The thin gold ring hovering between our heads and heaven.
I heard a Jewish speaker this week say
That You are as close in time to Abraham
As you are to Jesus
As you are to Muhammed,
As you are to Buddha,
As you are to each of us.
Gather us in.
