The phone rang again.
I knew it would be. It had to be.
Another pain. Another horror. Again.

The days are surely coming…
The days are surely coming…

I pulled up the article.
I knew it would be. Of course it was.
More greed. More destruction. More death. Always.

The days are surely coming…
The days are surely coming…

We pray and we pray,
we organize and gather,
we watch and prepare,
and we take comfort in your reminders…

The days are surely coming…
The days are surely coming…

But what about we who need you today?
Who need your living water and clean air?
Who can’t wait for court cases or elections?
Who are tear gassed, locked up, and ripped from their families?
What about those who already have the guns? And the rage? And have lived a lifetime in comfortable toxic masculinity?
What about those who already have the systems and policy-makers in their pockets?
What about those who cannot navigate this mess?
What about those who are weary from fighting and fighting and trying and fighting some more?
What about that one child, you know who, so very desperate, so very so, right now?

The days are surely coming…
The days are surely coming…

O good and great and wonderful and just and loving God,
We watch and wait and prepare and pray,
In faith, with hope, trusting you always,

But also,
Get down here.
We need you.

Amen.
