Just one candle.
It seems so tiny.
And yet
it is sufficient
to guide us until
the next one is lit,
and the next,
and then one more.
It will illumine the way
until the true Light comes.
And then the Light will shine
in all of the shadowy places,
and the shadow will never
extinguish it.

  1. I’m a Roman Catholic womanpriest who has been serving as pastor for Full Circle Catholic Church in Iowa City. I was ordained in 2010 and have walked the road of family insults, self doubt and grief as a woman paving a new way. I would love to talk to other women who are challenged to persevere amidst long standing prejudice.
