dear 8 pound 6 ounce little baby Jesus:

the floors are littered with tinsel and tissue
the tree is dry as a bone
the wassail has wassailed (whatever that means)
and you have been once again born

the services are finished
the staff has the plague
there’s funerals to plan and we’re behind on lent
and you have been once again born

uncle joe again yelled at betty
the kids didn’t get what they want
we’ve seen all the new movies
and you have been once again born

we haven’t been to the gym in a month
and the pounds just keep adding on
and don’t get us started on the new signs of stress
and you have been once again born

the world still chaotically turns
strangers are still in strange lands
so many wars and little good news
and you have been once again born

you have been once again born
into this world full of pain
but somehow you came, are coming again,
and we will be once again born

amen.
