Let me embrace your gift of the nighttime:
When I can pay attention to what is close,
Because distant things are obscured.
When I can say, “It is good enough”
Because work is done for the day and no sermon is perfect.
When I can turn off the noises of my day
Because silence is best for sleeping.
Thank you, God, for the work of this day.
Thank you for the rest of the night.
May the peace of your dark, cool shadow
Cover all your beloved children.
