God of love
Compassionate One,
so often I feel lost
and do not know
who to trust.

I hear in scripture
trust in God.
And 152 times
the word “trust”
appears in scripture.
Trust in God.

And yet, there are
so many variations
of You that are
portrayed in the world.
Who are You, O God?

Help me to lean into
what I know:
You are love.

And love means
listening deeply,
aiming to find
the commonalities
in my life with others

and to consider the places
in which there is nothing
in common,

and trust
that your experience is yours
and my experience is mine
and who’s to judge the other
as right or wrong?

So much division in the world
polarities and contention.
Trusting seems almost foolish,
and yet it’s probably the most
profound stance I can take.

Help me God, to trust.
Help me to love.
