Dear God of all times, places, and peoples,
I ask for your Spirit of consolation and strength to be present in clear and tangible ways to the people, especially the Muslim community, of Christchurch, New Zealand.
In a time of shock and grief, grant peace and gentleness to neighbors helping neighbors.
Let the wails of the mourners be heard, cutting to the core all who are tempted to downplay or dismiss the horror of a lack of safety in a place of worship or in one’s own town.
Guide the process of justice in the days ahead, that it may bring truth to the fore and destroy lies and falsities.
Receive the dead into holy peace and grant that they may rise in power in your timing.
Lord, have mercy.
