Holy One,

I am out of breath
exhausted
worrying about details
writing list upon list of tasks
shopping and baking
researching and writing
finding more volunteers
calling the florist
fitting in one more visit
calling while I’m driving
(hands-free, of course)
and hoping I don’t forget something important.

My professors in seminary
never warned me
that Holy seasons are the hardest
for the pastor.
(They just assigned papers due on Good Friday!)
But again, this year,
I find myself caught up in the busy
and forgetting the purpose
the awe and the joy
that is just around the corner.

I’m out of breath
and I know it.

One more lap
one more week
one tired pastor
knows it is for the glory
of Easter morning.

Keep my feet moving,
slow and steady,
pressing on
pressing in
towards the Alleluias
just around the corner.

Amen.
And Amen.
