I want to trade in my feelings of resentment–
That I’m up early on a Saturday
That I have a meeting to go to soon
And then another meeting after that
And a sermon to finish somehow in the midst of it all
While my husband and daughter are off to the races
(literally, running a 5K)
And it is a beautiful, sunny day
(with five days of thunderstorms starting tomorrow).
Deep breath
And there you go.
My resentments are yours.
By your grace, let me take up gratitude
For the privilege it is to serve you–
As I meet and plot for justice,
As I plan hospitality efforts with beloved church folks,
As I get to meditate on your word
And craft a few words of my own to share with the people on Sunday
(Your people, God. And also, kind of, mine—even if I’m not supposed to say that.)
So cleanse my heart of resentment
And fill me with gratitude.
And bless me with at least a few moments today
To breathe in the spring air
And feel the warm sun.
