God, Holy One, Immanuel,
This year, during Advent, I want to prepare my heart,
but I need to prepare the candles and banners and schedules;
I want to wait in quiet patience,
but I need to hurry up to the next activity;
I want to receive your message of hope,
but I also have messages to give as I struggle with my own despair;
I want the angel’s words, “Do not be afraid,” to soak into my soul,
but first I need to prepare my heart, to wait, to receive your Word.
In the midst of all there is to DO, God,
allow me also to BE
embraced by your presence,
waiting in hope.
