Veni sancte spiritus.
Come, Holy Spirit, breath of life.
Come through the hard and holy remembrances
of those who have been driven from this land,
of those who have been enslaved, beaten, lynched,
of families torn apart
and landscapes that cannot be put back together.
Veni sancte spiritus.
Come through the stories written in scripture,
the words published in print,
the images seen on screens,
the pain whispered among friends.
Veni sancte spiritus.
Come through the songs we sing,
the words we proclaim,
the signs we hold,
the prayers we raise.
Come in our bewilderment,
in our stumbling,
in our grief,
and in our courage.
Come, Holy Spirit, breath of life.
Veni sancte spiritus.

I love your prayer. The fire image is disturbing — I tend to move away from that image in this era of such terrible fires in California and Australia.
