God of all creatures, as I sit in my car,

I’m watching the sparrow on a branch,

the feathers intricately woven together, with more shades of brown than I knew existed.

This careful construction of this tiny, ordinary bird

lifts my heart, as evidence of your care.

If you have this much love for the sparrow, it must be true for each one of us, too.

So, today, I pray that you would make that care plain, and bold,

For the sick, and their weary caregivers,

for the people of Beirut,

for exhausted activists and frantic teachers,

and for all of us.  Amen.
