Holy One,
We are your people of peace in a world overwhelmed by violence.
We are your people of reconciliation in a world where the powerful seek to divide and conquer.
We are your people of community in a world literally sick with individualism.
We are your people of sacrifice in a world of entitlement.
We are your people of abundance in a world convinced there’s not enough.
We are your people of generosity in a world obsessed with security.
We are your people of grace in a world run by rating systems.
We are YOUR people, God.
But we live in this world.
This world where nothing we do seems quite right.
This world where even breathing seems dangerous.
This world that is not our home . . . except it is.
We are your people.
Be our God.
Be our God of courage and determination.
The mysterious presence with us in the fiery furnace.
Be our God of wisdom and discernment—
The pillar of cloud by day and the fire by night.
Be our God of miracles and joy—
An impromptu potluck on the mountainside.
Be our God, and we will be your people.
May it be so.
Amen
