We are setting out, O God,
following the star
(at least we hope we are).
We are hoping to find you,
Jesus,
hoping to have our worlds changed,
hoping to have our selves changed.
(We need all the change you’re bringing).
It is easy to lose sight of the star,
for it to be obscured by
the to-do lists,
the sermons to write,
the gifts to choose,
the meals to plan.
To feel like we are plodding ever onward
but not sure where we will arrive
at the end of it all.
Clear the clouds, O God,
that we might see the star shining brightly,
and set our course by it.
Clear the clouds, O God,
that we might seek you
wholeheartedly,
and seeking you,
might know you,
God with us.
Clear the clouds, O God,
that we might be drawn again
into the wonder and mystery
of love made known
in Jesus born in Bethlehem. Amen.

Snow clouds obscure the star for me now, this pandemic Advent. I trust it is there and, if I can stand still, the clouds will part.
