Fearless Prophet,
you picked up the mantle of truth-telling
and went about the countryside
proclaiming “Time’s up!
The kingdom of heaven has come near.”
Your words instilled fear
and inspired hope.
Grant us courage to be truth-tellers
in our time and place,
naming forces of evil that work to destroy
and reorienting ourselves
toward Christ-centered living,
no matter the cost.
Gracious Redeemer,
you called to us to change our lives
and believe the good news.
Your message changed hearts
and lives.
Lead us away from the trappings
of human power structures
toward the freedom of grace
proclaimed in the gospel,
that we may learn to be a world-community
where all God’s children are made whole
in the welcome of God’s shalom.
Fisher of People,
you called us to leave behind what we have known
and enter into a new way of being
with intention and urgency.
In a world of chaos and double-talk,
help us to listen for your voice
speaking to us in the stillness,
of mercy and justice and peace.
Shift our idol worship away from hope in humans
toward faith in the God who leads
with kindness and
with love.
