Dear God, for Ordinary Time’s chance to take a deep breath, we are grateful.
Ordinary days reveal their common graces,
and we thank you for the gift of the simple meals we so quickly forget,
for the place we come to rest at night,
and for the surrounding love of our friends.
For the fun of a text message, or a book to read,
for the stretch of a walk, or the ease of a nap, we are grateful.
And, we ask, could make these days even more ordinary?
No ICUs, no overstretched hospital aides and cleaning staff, no overwhelmed nurses and doctors.
No one grieving the deaths of distant loved ones, unseen for months.
No one hungry, or pained about the rent.
No one fearful of another’s presence.
The ordinary, God, holds your grace for us, and we praise you for it. Amen.
