The wind slams against the side of my little house, rattling the glass, tapping her impatient bony fingers, searching out a way in. She howls in frustration, whistles and sighs round the eaves.
She reminds me of you, God. Persistent. Poking at my heart, smoothing back my hair to whisper in my ear. Sending tender hymn notes jangling through last year’s wind chime, battered in its leafless tree.
Remember, you whisper. Remember and turn.

Help me to open the windows. Help me to let you in. Help me to hear the message of hope borne on the back of the wind, found in the song of the few brave birds as the days lengthen and life returns.
Help me to remember your goodness, how to sing, how to pray. Help me to turn once more toward you, I don’t know why I keep losing the path.
May your winds stir up your people to hope, gird them for justice, surround them with love. Even me.
