Sometimes, when I am out walking,
taking deep breaths, breathing big air, shouting at the tall trees, marveling at the tiniest wildflowers,
I get lost in how much you are.
But there are other days,
when my heart is breaking, and my life is overwhelming, and I can’t find the next step,
and I need you so much to be my own dear friend.
It’s a mystery to me how you manage to be both. And more. And all.
I don’t have the wisdom or the emotional strength or the creativity to figure that out today.
I simply want to say thanks.
Thank you.
For big the vast creative force of wind and sea, of creature and poetry, of song and story, of life and hope.
And thank you for being a buddy who gets me and my drama, too.
Thank you.
Amen.
