Even while we are starting to relax the rules
and easing restrictions
we are seeing other places
moving even deeper
into the pandemic
and we remind ourselves
that it is not yet over

I am seeing friends
I am worshiping in community
I am watching children playing together
and I think that it might be over
but then I look at Japan
and I think that it may be starting
all over again

We have learned a lot
over the past months
but I wonder, Lord,
how much of it
we will remember
and I pray that
we will not relax

For that way is the way
to ruin.
I pray that we will have more
than good intentions
for we know that these
are the way to hell
and we think that we have already survived one trip there

Like a small child
bored from a too-long drive
i am asking, “Are we there yet?”
Even when I know
that we are not
And we have a ways to go
before getting to where we want to be

Holy One, we have been
asking you for many things
since this all started
but now I am asking
for only one thing
that we will get through this
and come out on the other side stronger than before

We are not there yet
but we will get there
eventually

Amen
