Look, I am truly out of nice words
and my ability to craft a lovely phrase flew out the window
somewhere with my 900th sigh about unvaccinated people
and the call for a third funeral in 15 days.
I believe that You are here and at work
and that I am surrounded by grace and that, yes, goodness and mercy are pursuing me.
These things are all true, but they do not erase the equal truth that
I am the kind of tired that is beyond an edible treat,
a bath, or even a splurge.
In the present circumstances, there is not space to take time off or away.
I know this will not be forever, but right now my grief and my exhaustion fill my field of vision and they’re all I know.
My prayer, then, is- please be with everyone else who feels this way.
It’s awful and no one should experience this, perceiving themselves to be alone.
