At night, Welcoming God, when I can’t sleep, is that you?

Are you waking me up so I can pray for someone, with more attention than in the daytime?

Should I be examining a flaw I have rushed past during the day, as I answer email and go to meetings?

Is it time to set down some clawing unease,

some unforgiven person – or unforgiven part of myself?

Is it time to pray for the world, divided, on fire, flooded, still full of injustice?

Is a far away friend or loved one wakeful, and I’m joining them across the distance?

I’m listening, God, and thankful for your company in the night.  Amen.

  1. I’ve had insomnia since I was a child, and am finally fighting it with medication (something I long held off and that is not a perfect solution) Thank you so much for this prayer.
