Many of us wake up this particular morning-after with liturgical hangover from all that Advent, Solstice,
Christmas, Kwanzaa, Watchnight, New Years and Epiphany. Let’s pray.
God, we rise from a sleep under stars,
that are just stars –
amazing, incredible, glorious stars!
There are so many of them now,
and we are reminded
that the people of earth have followed
different lights to find the holy,
to find you,
journeys that do not threaten
our guidance to Bethlehem,
or the water of the Jordan,
Nazareth synagogue, edge of the cliff.
Thank you for the twinkle
that reaches us from long ago
red giants, white dwarfs,
and one that was “seen in the east”
making magi of everyone
who returns home another way.
Teach us to continue wise and gifted
seeking daily
our lower-case epiphanies,
and to shine now
for those who will love you
when we are light-years gone.
Amen
