God, I am grateful,
not for the advice
of those who built houses on rock,
but for one floating board
of someone’s sand-disaster
I was able to grab,
anonymous at a meeting.
I am grateful,
not for the good soil garden
with rabbit-ground-hog-proof fence,
but the unexpected beauty
of tulip bulbs rising from
fall leaves, dog poop and thorns.
I am grateful, not just for samaritans,
but the ongoing grudging care
of innkeepers,
for the broken-toe folks
who missed the narrow gate the first time,
and older siblings stinking from the fields
who ask me to dance,
I am trying to be grateful for everyone I meet today,
even in the mirror. amen

Even in the mirror!
Oh, what a great line and a beautiful prayer: to be grateful for everyone we meet – even ourselves.
Thank-you.
