Precious One
We call on you…
Day by day.
We call on you…
Moment by moment.
We call on you…
Event by event
Cry by cry

Calling, hoping, knowing, feeling, seeking…
You.
Be with us all we pray
Hear our prayers
Deep, heart prayers
Quick, reaction prayers
Holy, Spirit prayers

We call
We wait
We hear
We act
We are your vessels
Inspire and encourage
We pray.
Today and always

Monday Prayer

(I have flown across the world, to share love and Galship with my sisters. To hear again our God stories.
And what I am hearing is anguish, and anger that is building to outright fury)

Holy God
Help us!
Here in this dreamlike state I ponder.

How can this be?
How can it have come to this?
We have examples to follow
And we have history to avoid repeating
And yet. Here we are

O holy of holies
God from God
Light from Light
Hear your people cry
Hear all peoples cry
And fire up in us:
Powerful voices
and build up in us
Indomitable courage
And fill up in us
Your Spirit’s breath

And, forgive us when we are unsure
Or too afraid, or too bereft to speak
And heal this breaking, tearing, divided world
And remind us again and again that with you,
Nothing is impossible

Even on this bleak last Monday in January

Amen

Monday Prayer

Holy One how precious life is!
OUr years are fleeting,

When we look back at the passage of time – it seems impossible
Day to day
Week to week
Year to year
There it is gone!

And yet…
We are it in, and the future is frightening

God of all the things
Today I hand over my worries
My fears
My apprehension

What will be, will be
What I do with what I have is the here and now

Equip me; equip my friends; equip those I distrust and those I fear.
For if we are all equipped by you – really You, then I can trust the command “Do not fear”
Until that time…
Help me in my doubting and fear
Especially this week.
Amen

Monday Prayer

Precious One!

Another week; another list of things to do; work and work; another list of things not finished; work and work; another list of things to feel guilty about!

Oh Precious One – hear us!
Calm us!
Nurture us!
Nourish us!
Help us to pause…
pause..
pause..

Because. I. We. Am. Are so quick to judge ourselves as failing.
Especially when then only eyes judging us are our own.

So, as another week of work and lists and feels begins
help us to

P.ray
A.dore
U.nload
S.top
E.mpower

Pause
pause
pause
p a u s e

Amen

Monday Prayer

01d32b8ffb8c91d28713fb9e43243a9b6f3bb1ac9fI say tomato, you say tomato

I say second of January, you say January second
I say bonnet, you say hood,
I say boot, you say trunk

I say courgette you say zucchini
I say aubergine you say eggplant
I say rocket, you say arugula (I had to go look that one up)

I say, thanks be to God, and so do you
I say, please pray for me, and so do you,
I say, O Lord, bless us, and so do you

I say, O Precious Holy Breath, breathe in and through me,
I say, O Sweet Holy Friend, thank you
Thank you for my friends, holy and anointed
Thank you for all that unites us in you
Thank you for all that joins us together
Thank you even, for all those funny words, the same yet different…

Thank you for one more trip round the sun together,
Remind us often, that we are not alone, but united in you

O Precious
O Sweet
O Holy
O Love
I say,
And you say,
Amen

Monday Prayer

It’s a cold and frosty morn,
the phrase, “earth stood hard as iron”
is lived out beneath my feet
the air hangs still, misty breaths swirl in my face as I breathe

Oh Precious Holy One!

01d32b8ffb8c91d28713fb9e43243a9b6f3bb1ac9f

Manse garden Earlston Dec 2016

The day is here, this is the moment.
Thank you for this stillness
this frosting
this breath…
I take this pause, in amongst all the busyness
and give thanks that I live!

Precious Holy,
in all of the demands in this season,
may we be able to pause
may we be able to take a moment
to still in the world
to be
to know
that even in a bleak midwinter, there is hope
there is YOU
Amen

Monday Prayer: Tūrangawaewae

[God] lifted me out of the pit of death, out of the mud and filth, and set my feet on solid rock…  (Psalm 40:2, CEB)

Thank you, God,
for giving me a place to stand,

a place to stand tall,
a place to know myself loved,
a place in which I belong,
a place to know I am yours.

Thank you, God,
for giving me a place to stand,
a place from which to lift my voice,
in praise and thanksgiving,
in supplication and in lament.

Thank you, God,
for giving me a place to stand,
a place from which to speak words of truth,
words of hope,
words of prophecy,
words of rebuke.
A place from which to make your good news known.

Thank you, God,
for setting my feet on firm ground.

Amen.

*Tūrangawaewae is a Māori word meaning place where one has the right to stand – place where one has rights of residence and belonging through kinship and whakapapa/genealogy.

Monday Prayer – All Hallow’s Eve

Holy One – Holiest of all.

This Monday thoughts drift towards the beloved saints
And, if we’re honest, they drift towards safety for our wee ones, out enjoying the fun!
“Trick or treat!”
“Trick or Treat!!”
High days and Holy Days. Fun days and dress up.
Crisp autumn nights
Damp air and falling leaves
Or, maybe it is a spring day – new growth and signs of life, as our world turns and turns, and north and south, east and west our prayers drift, from continent to continent day to night; all we know, Holy of Holies, is that as one rises another sleeps, and the only constant is you.

On this All Hallow’s Eve be with your beloved children we pray,
Each and every one.
North and South
East and West
Morning and evening
Night and day
At home and out in the neighbourhood.

Amen and Amen

Monday Prayer

Worldwide God
God of every corner of this amazing planet!
The earth is so vast – I can never go to every part, every nation, every continent… It’s all beyond my imagining.
And yet.
And yet.
We are joined together by invisible, indivisible threads.
Around a table; gathering in your name we are united
Yesterday we thought of those ties
We celebrated the special meal that joins us
Different breads – one body
Different wines – one blood
Different buildings – one church
Different countries – one faith
Different traditions – one Christ, uniting us, bringing us together in wondrous symbiosis… How blessed!
Thank you Holy One for all that unites us through your Son, your Spirit, your body
Today and ever
Amen

Monday Prayer

IMG_0920Another week
Another set of seven
Another glimpse of God at work
Another time to pause
Reflect awhile with me…

What happened to you last week?
Where did the time go?
Who did you see, what did you talk about, where did you find God in those small things?
What?! You didn’t?
Well, pause awhile with me as we look together.
For in every moment, whether we realise it or not, God is with us, at work in us, inspiring words and conversations.

So, as this new week starts… Pause.
I cannot emphasis this enough!
PAUSE……….

Precious Holy
We pause, and in this moment we invite you in.
In to this day
In to this week
In to every conversation, meeting, email, transaction, planning session, yes! Everything!

We pause and invite and pray and ask and seek and search and, and, ahhhh…. again, I am trying too hard, filling the lists. When all I really need is to pause.
Pause

Pause

Breathe

Sigh

Breathe
Sigh
Thank you

Pause

Amen
