So, no matter what the weather’s doing where you live, this time of year brings the beginning of school for most people. Unless you are in year round school, or homeschooling, or something else. 🙂

Many folks I know say the beginning of school makes them feel like a new beginning, even if they are not in school themselves or have kids there. In fact, I did a little math at the beginning of the week and determined that, based on my career in higher education and when I entered first grade, I am entering the 44th Grade this year.

So, for beginnings: Tell us five things that are new in your life, or that you would LIKE to have be new in your life. If that doesn’t work, how about things that you are ready to shed….to make room for new things? Opening your hands to release, to see what God might put into them?

So, go!

Something shiny and new…

  1. My five new things are all wonderful, and I am loving the opportunity to share them!
    1. My brand-new grandson arrived on Aug. 27!
    2. I married the love of my life on Aug. 17!
    3. I begin my second year of college on September 24.
    4. The one-year anniversary of my return to ministry and my installation as Asst. Minister!
    5. I’m finally losing the weight I’ve been carrying for ten year. I’ve just lost 20 lbs!

And just to put these all in context, I also celebrated my 52nd birthday last month! God is good, ALL the times of our lives!

  2. Playing here as none of my blogs is a suitable place. 5 new things that are affecting my family just now. Incidentally, I’d value your prayers as the 4-year-old’s anxiety levels are through the roof, unsurprisingly:

    1) Today is my elder grandson’s last ever day at nursery.
    2) Younger grandson, who will be a year old on 11/09 is to be baptised on 07/09 and there will be a mega-party to celebrate his baptism and his first birthday.
    3) Elder grandson will be spending the day in France with us on 08/09, which is his brother’s first day at nursery!
    4) He – elder grandson – starts school on 15 September (the Reception class starts a week later than the rest of the school, to allow time for the others to settle in).
    5) My daughter goes back to work on 21 September, and after that I shall be looking after the baby on Thursdays on my own. Looking forward to that, as it will give me a chance to get to know him when he is not overshadowed by his boisterous brother!

    2. My boys turn “2” on 23rd Sept.
    3. I will be installed at my church as solo pastor on 28th Sept…and this represents a serious merging of multiple worlds as it is in the state wherein most of my birth family/childhood family /friends reside.
    4. Yoga (if I can figure out scheduling).
    5. Trying to live more authentically and in deeper relationships

  4. Here are my five:
    1. An art and design class at a quilt shop in Santa Fe (they are more artsy up there)
    2. Striking off on my own in following God’s call in my life
    3. More time with my husband
    4. A brand new program for the Diocese of the Rio Grande in Mentoring for Ministry on the Margins required of all newly ordained clergy working in the diocese and taught by me and a colleague
    5. Looking at closing things down or cutting back on my involvement so that as I prepare to enter another stage of life I’m doing what I love with the people I love (hanging out at home, travel, pursuing arts beyond preaching and writing)

    Life is good right now.
