Jesus, my Friend,

I want to say, “I got nothing. I can’t pray.”

And I guess that’s what I’m here to say today.

I can’t pray. I can only cry.

I am crying for the violence of the world and our country and communities

for our schools and airplanes and in chemical attacks

and for refugees turned away and drowned

and people who starve while others have too much.

We are soul-sick.

You know. You were here, you saw it.

All our castles, all the lovely sources of our pride, are torn down

and there is nothing.

And I’ve got nothing. Nothing but You.
