God, we can’t even remember what day it is
These times still seem so surreal
A pandemic
Constant political unrest
A Black man shot down while jogging
Babies in cages
Yet we still sing, “It is well with my soul…”
Willing it.
Believing it.
Working to make it so.
But how can it be?
How can our hearts not break daily?
Wait, what day is it?
This is the day that God has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it
One more day to do justice
One more day to love and show kindness
One more day to forgive and seek mercy
Thank you, God, for one more day
Thank you, God, for the beauty that refuses to go unnoticed…
…for Sophia running free, freeing us from all of the mess
Thank you, God, for a love that refuses to die
Amen, selah and ashé
