A while ago I noticed that people in a small cyber group of which I’m a part seemed to have playlists for all kinds of situations, so I started finding songs to fit my moods. And I’ll be at the Wild Goose Festival this weekend, so music is on my mind. For today’s Friday Five, tell us about your favorite songs for different situations.

1. What song do you listen to or sing to deal with times when you are sad?

2. What’s a song that inspires you?

3. What’s a song that reminds you of a happy time in your childhood?

4. What’s a song that makes you want to dance?

5. What’s a song that you share with someone you love?

Bonus question: What’s a hymn or spiritual song you love to sing?

Feel free to post YouTube videos to go along with your answers.

You can put a link to your blog in the comments, or play along here.

  1. I use to listen to a lot of music, especially when driving. Now I hardly ever do. I prefer silence. But, I still really love music and imagine I’ll come back to it one day. I will surely need to up my playlist when that day comes. The playlists I have for now are: meditation (with Ana Hernandez and R. Carlos Nakai on Indian Flute); church picnic (all kinds of fun dance music across the generations); classical (mostly Yo Yo Ma on cello); and Christmas.

    1. I agree with you on the silence. I treasure time in silence punctuated by the sounds surrounding me–the whir the the fridge, the construction happening across the street, and, in the very early morning, birds waking to the day.

    1. Love “Yesterday” and love it even more since I discovered that McCartney’s working title was “Scrambled Eggs”. Wonder if he worked out the rest of the words.

  4. 1. The Beatles “In My Life” reminding me that in all things love reigns – or it should!

    2. “The Prayer” sung by Andrea Botticelli and Celine Dion

    3. The Beatles “Hey Jude”. Until I was a fifth grader our family lived in brownstone style apartments (now condos) and all the neighbors spent Friday night at the local Italian restaurant eating pizza and pasta and giving us kids money for the jukebox. All ages knew all the words to this song and I even named my first dog Jude!

    4. “Brick House” by the Commodores and anything by KC and the Sunshine Band.

    5. “A Kiss to Build a Dream On” by Louis Armstrong

Bonus: “I Wonder as I Wander” and “How Can I Keep from Singing?”
